Bill Schmitt is new to golf and wants to learn to play the right way. Having completed his first set of 8 training sessions in July 2020, Schmitt looks forward to “treating myself” to a second set of lessons. “I’m only taking a break to lose some weight so that I can be comfortable in the (golf) positions Nathan has taught me. No swivel hips. No chicken wings. Hit two inches ahead of the ball. Nathan showed me how to stand, the proper grip, and the most consistent way to swing. To me, that’s the best investment I’ve made in golf so far. And Nathan’s got such a great sense of humor.” After spending most of his training on the driving range, Schmitt recently took his new skills on a nine-hole trial run. “I was quite comfortable, and I don’t think I’d have felt that way before Nathan. I look forward to taking it to the next level.”
A recent family golf outing for the Rivera family was a chance for daughter Faith to show how far she has come since first training with Nathan Kang last year. “She was hitting really far and straight, and that’s because of Nathan,” said mom Dina Rivera. “I was impressed with her golf swing,” said Patrick. “Those lessons really paid off, especially for someone that never played before.” Faith’s progress was exciting, and seeing that she had retained her skills a year on was a real motivator. “Nathan really teaches well,” said Dina. “I could see how he watches her form. Just a little change in how her arm is positioned and what a difference it makes. Nathan uses a video app to show Faith her swing, and brings different tools to help her. She never misses the ball these days, she always hits it.”
NKGI student, Mark Minster, came to Guam from Utah on a construction project for his company, The Wadman Corporation. Having golfed a few dozen times a year for the last 20 years, Minster started training with Nathan Kang to fill his weekends in Guam. “Nathan sees stuff in my swing that I can improve and helps with the way my body moves,” said Minster. “He’s knowledgeable and really personalized my training. We started focusing on a consistent shot, because without consistency, it’s really not worth playing golf. My consistency has really improved. I don’t wonder where the ball is going next anymore. Before I came to Nathan, I was not the most patient golfer and I often felt frustrated. Now golf is more enjoyable!”
